Expatriates and visitors have been banned from advertisements on social media without getting license and it is a punishable crime, Those who do not obey the law may go to five-year prison and fines of up to Five Million Saudi Riyal.
Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Audiovisual Media announced the ban and said it had noticed violations by numerous expatriates and visitors alike on the social media platform. The commission said that after checking their data showed that they were doing e-advertising without obtaining commercial registration and legal license and we also found that they were not operating under any commercial organization or foreign investment license.
As-per the rules commercial establishments cannot deal with non-Saudi advertisers to events for marketing products, services and goods.
According to the Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Audiovisual Media only those people will allowed for advertising who is working under a commercial entity, and got a license and legal documents authorizing them to practice commercial advertising on social media platforms.
This is in accordance with the Saudi Arabian laws on audiovisual media, the Electronic Commerce Law, and the relevant laws and regulations, including the Labor Law by Royal Decree No. Article 33 of M/51, dated Shaban 23, 1426, specifies that a non-Saudi may not practice work or engage in it without obtaining a license.
Expatriate violators of regulations, issued by Royal Decree No. (M/24) dated 12/5/1434, prohibit the employee from working for his own account, and the Law for Combating Commercial Cover-Up, issued by Royal Decree No. (M/40) dated 1/1/1442, treats non-Saudis who practice an economic activity for their own account as a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment and fines of up to SR5 million.
